The Detroit to Wyandotte Paddle is the most requested and most difficult tour on our schedule. Paddle past the Renaissance Center and downtown Detroit, under the Ambassador Bridge, the J.W. Westcott, past Zug Island and the upper islands of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge.
Detroit to Wyandotte Paddle
Paddling Time: Averages 6 hours, total event time averages 8 hours.
Route Classification: Intermediate/Advanced Paddle – We will paddle for about 3 hours before the lunch break. Take about 45 minutes for the lunch break and then another 3 hours of paddling to the take out . In the summer there is often a south wind so we frequently fight a head wind on this paddle which negates the benefit of the current. This is not a float trip, you must paddle.
Please note that this paddle is not for beginners. If you are unsure of your paddling ability, please call us prior to registering.
Route: Paddle from the Belle Isle Kayak Beach to the Wyandotte Pine Street Put-In. Lunch will be at the Delray Boat Launch. (Bring your own lunch.)
Requirements: All participants on the Detroit to Wyandotte Paddle will be expected to know how to do a wet exit with a sprayskirt. All paddlers must have a life jacket on and zipped for the duration of the paddle. We do not allow alcoholic beverages and we will not allow anyone under the influence of drugs or alcohol to paddle. These requirements are for your safety and the safety of the group.
Minimum Age: 18 years old.
Parking: Free parking is available along Pine Street. Please do not park in Portofino’s parking lot.
Restrooms: We recommend stopping before you get to the Wyandotte Pine Street Put In, there are public restrsooms at the Wyandotte Shores Golf Course just south of Pine Street. We will make a restroom stop when we arrive on Belle Isle. The Delray Boat Launch is a City of Detroit park and does have Port-a-johns.
