Next Step Kayak Class
If you have taken the Fun Start class or you have been paddling for a while, but find you would like more boat control, safety and confidence; this is the class for you. We will work on balanced edging and side draws, basic rescues, safety, and beginning bracing and hip snaps. Some of these skills are good prerequisites for beginning rolling.
The Next Step Kayak Class is limited to 5 students.
Winter Next Step Classes will be held at various indoor pools.
Summer Next Step Classes will be held outdoors on Belle Isle, Detroit

Adult & Community Education – Dearborn Public Schools
Course Covers: Boat Control-Edging and Stability, Capsize Prevention-Bracing, Moving Sideways-Draws, Water Safety-Rescues, Efficient Forward Stroke and Turns. Many of these skills are Prerequisites for Rolling Class
Cost: $80 Per Person for more skills, 3 Hour Class$60 Per Person for fewer skills, 2 Hour Class

Prerequisites: Fun Start Kayak Class (beginning kayak class) or relative kayaking experience.
Required Equipment: Sea kayak or double bulkheaded kayak (please contact us if you want to know if your kayak is appropriate), paddle, life jacket, spray skirt, pump and paddle float.
Recommended Equipment: Nose plugs and a glasses tether
Other Items to Bring: Water clothing, water shoes, a towel and a change of clothing. Locker room facilities are available at the Downriver Family YMCA in Southgate, McCollogh-Unis School and Detroit's Coleman A Young Recreation Facility; where the majority of our indoor classes are offered.
Belle Isle Classes are near either an NEW Outhouse or Bathroom for changing.
