Advanced Training Prior to Symposium 
(Requires Preregistration)

BCU 3 Star Training:
Thursday, June 21, 2018 and Friday, June 22, 2018, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.This course does not start with the basics, but rather seeks to improve existing skills for experienced kayakers who are ready to move up to the next level. If you have been paddling for a while, or are planning a sea kayaking adventure, 3 Star Training is an excellent way to refine skills and build confidence.At the 3-Star level, paddlers will show skill with a variety of strokes, maneuvers and rescues. Participants will train on efficient forward paddling, maneuvering on the move, and linking strokes into maneuvers.

Prerequisites: Intermediate Paddling Skills with Rescue Experience

Cost: $250 ($175 for Port Austin Kayak Symposium Participants)

Advanced Overnight Expedition Course:
Thursday, June 21, 2018, 9:00 a.m. – Friday, June 22, 2018, 4:00 p.m.

Dreaming of touring our beautiful Coastal Waters and living out of your Sea Kayak? We have been teaching Coastal Sea Kayakers to plan, pack, paddle, and camp -leaving no trace; since 2012. And we love it!

Students’ Coastal Touring Skills will be further advanced in wind, weather, rough water, basic navigation, incident/risk management, camping and group leadership.

Prerequisites: Paddler should have previous Sea Kayak Instruction including: Basic Strokes, Bracing and Rescues. Paddler should be comfortable paddling 1′-2′ waves (when water rushes over bow); and have practiced paddling 10 miles without leaving boat with an average speed of 3 mph. Or Instructor Permission. 

Cost: $75 (Includes camping fees)

Limited to 10 participants registered for the Symposium.
