ACA Level 1 & 2 Coastal Kayak Instructor Certification Workshop, ICW

During the first 2 days, our experienced instructors will provide feedback on your paddling, teaching and group management skills. At the end of the workshop, you should be able to demonstrate proficiency in performing and teaching intermediate level kayak skills and rescues in moderate sea conditions, such as protected waters with winds up to 10 knots, waves up to one foot and currents up to one knot. This workshop includes classroom and on-water time. On the last day, the instructor will conduct a certification exam for each candidate. Participation does not guarantee certification.

Other considerations

Prior to participating in the ICW participants are required to become members of the American Canoe Association, purchase an ACA instructor manual, and upon completion of their Instructor Certification become members of the Safety Education and Instruction Council (SEIC). To be an instructor you must be 18 years of age and also have current first aid and CPR certification.
