Detroit Historical Canal Tour
Historical tour leaves from Detroit’s Maheras-Gentry Park. Kayak out to the Detroit River from the Park’s protected bay and then upstream to the historic canals. Highlights of this tour include the Fisher Mansion, the friendly residents of Detroit's "Little Venice" and a view of Motor City's downtown. See Detroit like you’ve never seen it before! (Each tour is limited to 20 participants)

Paddling Time: Averages 2 hours (Total event time approximately 2.5 hours)
Route Classification: Beginner/Intermediate Paddle - Paddler should be comfortable in active water due to the potential paddling conditions, caused by wind and waves.
Requirements: We ask that all kayaks used on the Detroit River have double bulkheads or sit-on-tops. If you paddle with RKC, you must have your life jacket on and zipped for the duration of the paddle. These requirements are for your safety and the safety of the group.
Route: Paddle from the ox bow (protected bay) of Maheras-Gentry Park out to the Detroit River and upstream to where the Fisher Mansion is located. Back on the river for a short distance to what has been called the "Venice of Detroit". Then the return trip to Maheras-Gentry Park downstream on the Detroit River.
Minimum Age: 14 years old. 14 - 18 year olds must be accompanied with an adult while on the water.
Parking: Free parking is available in proximity to the launch.
Detroit Kayak Launching Permit: The City of Detroit Recreation Department requires a free permit for launching a kayak from a City of Detroit Park. When you register we will ask for an emergency contact that we need to provide to the City of Detroit prior to the paddle and at the tour you will need to complete the permit application.
