If you have taken the Fun Start class or you have been paddling for a while, but find you would like more boat control, safety and confidence; this is the class for you. We will work on balanced edging and side draws, sculling, basic rescues, safety, and beginning bracing and hip snaps. Some of these skills are necessary prerequisites for beginning rolling.
Next Step Kayak Class
3 Hour Class Covers:
Boat Control – Edging and Stability – Capsize Prevention, Bracing – Moving Sideways , Draws – Rescues – Forward Stroke – Turns – Sculling – Hip-Snaps
Cost: $80 Per Person
Registration: All of our classes require pre-registration. Our classes frequently fill up so register early.
Prerequisites: Fun Start Kayak Class or other beginning kayak class.
Minimum Age: 14 years old. 14 – 18 year olds must be accompanied by an adult.
Number of Students: Limited to 5 students.
Cancellation Policy: If you have to cancel your reservation, please call at least 48 hours prior to the class for a full refund.
Equipment:
Required Equipment: Sea kayak or double bulk-headed kayak, paddle, life jacket, spray-skirt, pump and paddle float. (Please contact us to confirm if your kayak is appropriate.)
We do not provide kayaks for the Next Step Class.
Recommended Equipment: Nose plugs and glasses tether. (optional)
Other Items to Bring: Water clothing (no cotton, rash guards and board shorts are ideal), water shoes, a towel and a change of clothing.
Locker room facilities are available at the indoor pool locations.
On Belle Isle there are modern restroomson the right-hand side of Lakeside Drive after the golf driving Range and before the Detroit Yacht Club. We recommend stopping there before getting to the next turn on your right where the Next Step Class will be held. The Next Step Class is not held at the Kayak Beach further along.
