If you wish to Train and Certify as a Level 3 Coastal Kayak Instructor, or want to document your Coastal Kayaking Skills; this is the Skills Assessment for you. Upon successful completion of the Level 3 Coastal Kayaking Skills Assessment checklist, your Instructor will submit the paperwork and you will receive official documentation of your level of skill from the ACA National Office.
Note: to receive Skills Assessment documentation, you must be a current ACA member. This will be and additional $40/year
Assessment Overview: This ACA Assessment Course is designed to evaluate a participant’s ability to perform all of the skills listed along with demonstrating an appropriate level of knowledge. This assessment course provides the participant with the opportunity to receive documentation of having achieved a certain level of paddling ability. Skills assessed are listed in the link below:
ACA Level 3: Coastal Kayaking Skills Assessment
Course Location / Venue: The L3: Coastal Kayak Assessment cannot be completed unless 2 of the following conditions necessary for assessment are present: 10-15 knot winds 1-2 foot seas 1-2 foot breaking waves.
Location, and which day we will assess on, Saturday or Sunday; will depend on Weather Conditions necessary to do a Level 3 Coastal Kayaking Assessment.
- It is expected that participants interested in pursuing this award will have participated in a minimum of three, full day journeys e.g. longer than 8 nautical miles prior taking the L3 Coastal Kayaking Skills Assessment.
- Participants need to be an ACA Member prior to taking Assessment. $40/year additional
- You do not need to take any specific classes before the Assessment, but you should already feel confident in all the skills to be assessed. Classes that you might want to take in preparation are: ACA L3 Coastal Kayaking Strokes and Maneuvers, Rescues and More Rescues, Towing, and Rolling.
The Level 3 Coastal Kayaking Skills Assessment is a prerequisite for participating in a Level 3 Coastal Kayaking Instructor Development Workshop and Certification.
