The Grosse Ile Yacht Club Paddle (GIYC) is a bi-weekly group paddle from the beautiful location on the southeast end of Grosse Ile. GIYC’s location on Hickory Island, at the confluence of the Detroit River and Lake Erie, provides for numerous paddling opportunities. The route varies based on the group and paddling conditions. After the paddle you are welcome to join us for dinner at GIYC.
Grosse Ile Yacht Club Paddle
Paddling Time: 1.5 Hours.
Route Classification: Beginner/Intermediate Paddle
Route: Varies with wind and waves. Possible routes include paddling throughtthe GIYC marina into Gibraltar Bay and then around Round Island, Swan Island, Elba Island or Hickory Island, around Sugar Island, or around Celeron Island.
Requirements: All paddlers must have a life jacket on and zipped for the duration of the paddle. We do not allow alcoholic beverages and we will not allow anyone under the influence of drugs or alcohol to paddle. These requirements are for your safety and the safety of the group.
Minimum Age: 14 years old. 14 – 18 year olds must be accompanied by an adult while on the water.
Parking: You may unload your kayak in the circle drive, please pull to the side so toher may drive around. After unloading or if you are renting a kayak, parking is available in the parking lot.
Restrooms: There are restrooms available on the 1st and 2nd floor of GIYC.
Cost: $35 Per Person For Kayak Rental Non-GIYC Member, $30 Per Person For Kayak Rental GIYC Member – All Riverside Kayak Connection kayaks for tours are single sit-inside kayaks. When registering please provide your height and weight so that we bring an appropriate kayak.
$20 Per Person With Own Kayak Non-GIYC Member, Free With Own Kayak GIYC Member – We require personal kayaks to be at least 12′ long and have double bulk-heads or be a sit-on-top.
Registration: All of our tours require pre-registration. Our tours frequently fill up so register early.
Cancellation Policy: If for any reason you have to cancel your reservation or change the date of your booking, please call at least 48 hours prior to the tour for a full refund.
Post Paddle Dinner: After the Thursday Grosse Ile Yacht Club Paddle, join the GIYC kayekers, in the clube for dinner and drink. Before you launch, reserve your dinner seat with the RKC representative and then join the group after the paddle to share information on your latest adventure! (You are on your own for the cost of dinner, GIYC only accepts Credit Cards for non-GIYC members.)

A Grosse Ile Yacht Club membership allows for use of the club ramp and launch facilities and ther are kayak rakes available for member to store their kayaks for the summer. If you would like information about GIYC membership you can complete the form on their website.
If you are interested in joining GIYC they hold a New Member Open House every spring. This year’s New Member Open House will be Sunday, May 6, 2018 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
