Port Austin Kayak Symposium Questions
1. Where do I check-in upon arrival?
Overnight Participants will be contacted with your check-in location.
All others check-in will be based on when you arrive:
Friday, June 23rd - 1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Port Austin Visitor Center, 2 West Spring Street
Friday, June 23rd - 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Veterans Waterfront Park Pavilion
Saturday, June 24th and Sunday, June 25th - RKC Trailer at Bird Creek County Park
2. What do I bring to PAKS
We will have last minute items available for purchase at RKC 2 Go
Kayak, Paddle, and Life Jacket (Please contact us if you do not have your own kayak and kayak gear)
Wetsuits with a paddling jacket or a dry suit
Water Bottle (We will have a water cooler dispenser with ice water to refill bottles)
Nose Clips (Especially for rolling and rescues classes)
Goggles (If your eyes are sensitive to water)
3. What is RKC II Go?
Riverside Kayak Connection’s on the go trailer will be at Bird Creek County Park. We will have necessities like nose plugs, water shoes, paddle clothing, outfitting items, and paddle gear for purchase.
4. When do we meet for the Saturday morning trip?
After the Friday evening Pizza/Potluck there will be a meeting for participants and guides for the Saturday Morning Trip. At the meeting the trip logistics and safety plan will be discussed. This will include shuttle, boat transportation, meeting location and time.
5. What do I do for food?
Friday Dinner – Pizza and Potluck at Veterans Memorial Park Pavillion
Saturday Breakfast – On Your Own (The local restaurants are busy because it is also the Farmers Market day)
Saturday Lunch – Catered at the Bird Creek Park Pavillion
Saturday Dinner – Catered at the Bird Creek Park Pavillion
Sunday Breakfast – Catered at the Brid Creek Park Pavillion

6. Is lodging included?
All participants are on their own for lodging. Camping is available at Port Crescent State Park (fills up quickly) 7 miles from Bird Creek County Park. There are numerous small non-chain motels in Port Austin.
7. Where do the classes and tours take place at PAKS?
Most of the classes and trips will leave from the Bird Creek County Park beach. Participants may leave their kayaks on the beach. RKC is not responsible for participants kayaks and gear.
The park has restrooms facilities and showers (the showers require quarters).
8. What is the PAKS safety protocol?
Life jackets must be worn at all times while on the water. All classes and trips will have an instructor to student ratio of 5:1.
PAKS reserves the right to cancel or postpone classes and tours based on weather.
9. Where do I park? Parking is available at Bird Creek County Park. Please only park in designated parking spots. We will have overflow parking as well as a designated area for vehicles with trailers.
