Detroit Historical Canal Tour
Approximate 2 hour paddle from Detroit’s Maheras-Gentry Park. Kayak out to the Detroit River from the Park’s protected bay and then upstream to the historic canals. Highlights of this tour include the Fisher Mansion, the friendly residents of Detroit's "Little Venice" and a view of Motor City's downtown. See Detroit like you’ve never seen it before!

Location: Maheras-Gentry Park at the end of Algonquin Park Drive, off of Clairpointe Street. The launch site consists of terraced limestone block descending to the water.
Fee: $40 for solo kayak, paddle, and life jacket. (When you sign up we will ask you for your approximate height and weight to select the appropriate kayak for you.) See the What to Bring link for items you may want to bring with you.
$20 with your own kayak, because there will be paddling on the Detroit River we ask that all kayaks have double bulkheads. If you paddle with RKC, you must have your life jacket on and zipped for the duration of the paddle. These requirements are for your safety and the safety of the group.
Paddling Time: Averages 2 hours (Total event time approximately 2.5 hours)
Route: Paddle from the ox bow (protected bay) of Maheras-Gentry Par,k out to the Detroit Rive,r and upstream to the where the Fisher Mansion is located. Back on the river for a short distance to what has been called the "Venice of Detroit". Then the return trip to Maheras-Gentry Park downstream on the Detroit River.
Route Classification: Beginner/Intermediate Paddle - Paddler should be comfortable in active water due to the potential paddling conditions, caused by wind and waves.
Minimum Age: 14 years old. 14 - 18 year olds and must be accompanied with an adult while on the water.
Parking: Free parking is available in proximity to the launch.

Sign Up: To reserve a kayak and gear call the shop at (734) 285-2925 at least 24 hours prior to the paddle (we recommend calling ahead as this is our most popular paddle so it fills up quickly).
